What is Hygge?

Hygge is special Danish phenomenon, it is in everything Danes do and that might be why Danes always score so high on the happiness barometer. In my childhood, when I came home after playing with friends or some fun adventure, my parent didn’t start by asking what happened or what type of house my friend lived in - first question was always was it hyggeligt? Danes prep their minds by constantly saying “ohh is is going to be so hyggeligt” and “isn’t this hyggeligt” - Danes know, we can’t control the weather or what life throws at us but we can certainly make sure to create hygge.

Hygge are most often associated with friends and food— but you can most definitely also bring amazing moments of hygge alone into your daily life. When I sit down to write on this blog, I do little things like lighting a candle next to me or making a myself a cup of tea to enjoy and just take 30 seconds to breathe and enjoy the smell before I start writing and that bring me so much happiness.

I love to surround my self with cozy books and beautiful things and love to snuggle up and enjoy my cozy home with all its everyday-messes and fun things left by the kids. There is an almost melancholic-happy feeling in sitting and reading, when the kids are out of the house and I can be myself in silence and just sip my tea and stare at the candle and marble at how amazing life is with these little humans and how lucky I am to spend so much time with them before they are all grown up and that little glimpse of Happiness is drops of hygge also.

However, the most happily hyggelig moments in my life right now are created surrounded by my friends and family— and in our little cozy homeschool.
